The trailer for the movie “LOL: Laughing Out Loud,” which had scenes filmed at South and throughout the Detroit area, was recently released despite rumors that the film had been dropped by Lionsgate. While an official release date has not been set, South students were excited to see parts of the school in the trailer.
“I thought the trailer looked good,” said Ali Gabrion ’13. “I’m so excited to see South in the movie.”
The movie is a remake of a 2008 independent French film by the same name. It was written by Liz Azuelos and Karim Ainouz and stars Miley Cyrus, Ashley Greene, Demi Moore and Douglas Booth.
The movie stars Cyrus as Lola, a 15 year old girl who falls for her ex-boyfriend’s best friend, Kyle, played by Booth. Moore plays Lola’s mother, Anne, who struggles to control Lola’s partying ways after her divorce from her husband.
Looking through the trailer, many parts of South can be seen, including Cyrus walking through the courtyard, changing in the locker room, and writing graffiti on the bathroom stalls. The movie’s release is still likely far off, but students like Gabrion are already looking forward to seeing the film.
